February 4th was a sad day for the West family. My dad passed away. I have had many interesting conversations with him right to the end. I wrote his obituary with love. This story told to me is one of my favorites. One day in 1973, Dad came home from work. He couldn’t get out of the car. He crawled to the steps of our house and told my mother he needed to see a chiropractor. This happened 4 days before my college graduation. He was determined to see me graduate from ESSC. After a few sessions with Dr. Mace from Nanticoke, Dad was front and center in the audience cheering me on. I never knew of his pain until afterwards. What a great guy! This picture was taken at North Lake. We always had fun dancing together. I was glad to say he was my dad. I will miss him very much. |

I knew Harry Sr. thru his wonderful son, Harry Jr. who worked for enviroGuard and enviroTech for a few years. Harry, Jr. always brought joy to our office; never a dull moment with him around. He never let you be sad; he would tell a light-hearted joke to brighten up your spirits. Harry, Sr. was so much like his son, Harry, Jr. We adored him when he came to Texas and spent time with us. They were 2 peas in a pod. We will miss both. They are both together once more, overlooking us in many ways. Debby, you made a wonderful presentation of your POP as well as your father, Harry, Jr. Evelyn Welborn |

As a boy growing up in Plymouth, PA you have no idea what a great influence he (Mr. West) had on my life for the better. He treated me like a friend in the times I really needed one. Tought me about hand tools and how fixing things yourself would give you independence over needing other people to fix things for you. Gave me odd jobs around the house for .25 cents an hour (I was only a child) and instilled a work ethic in me. I'm sorry I didn't keep in better touch after I joined the Navy and left. I thought about him often. I will miss you Mr. West. ____________Mike |

We didn't know Harry long only a few months that he moved into the Hi-Meadows Apartments. But Him and I seemed to hit it off right away. We became friends quickly. I went to see him on Sat. Feb. 2nd at Meadows Nursing Home and sat with him for awhile, told him we were leaving the following day for Fla. and I would see him when we got back, we prayed together so I now have to wait till I go home with the Lord to see him and I know I will. Harry you will be missed and I prayer for your family that they will have peace and comfort knowing that we will all be together in Heaven someday. Bye my Friend. |

Grandson, Donald sent me the sad news a few days after his grandad's passing. The following is an excerpt of what I wrote to Don--it captures the special feelings I always had for Mr. West!
Yes, I remember him fondly! I'll always remember how he tried to console me when I did not make the Kiwanis Little League team when I was in 6th grade after being on the team the two prior years. The reason was a quirk in LL rules and my birthday-July 25. I was only 11 that summer, but turned 12 before August 1— the magic cut-off date for being counted as an 11 year old. The rules allowed for only 5 players of 12 years old and the Kiwanis already had 5 not counting me. I was devastated. Your granddad took me aside and said he would gladly taken me on his UGI team, but he too already had 5 players of 12 years old. I never knew if he really did have 5 twelve-year olds or not, but he made me feel much better. The story turned out pretty well for me though because the next year, I was able to play in the "teener's league" as a 12 year (along with Wayne Thomas and George Mizzer who also have birthdays in July) got to play on a full –size baseball field with kids up to 16 years old while others our age were still playing little league!! Yes, your granddad was a good guy! You and all of us who knew him will miss him. |

Harry travled with my wife and me on several trips I hosted for WYOU TV. What
a wonderful man and great traveling companion. Harry always had a story and a smile to share with us.
Now he's blazing a new trail the rest of us will have to wait to travel.
Rest in peace my dear friend. Thanks
for the stories. I think of them, and you and....I'm still smiling! |

Big Harry, aswe called him, was always sooo dear to my heart, as was my cousin Jane. They and my Aunt Bessie, were beyond kind and endearing. They were some of the most special people I've ever known and I will always remember growing up with them and their descendents...Little Harry, Bobby, Nancy, Debbie, Donny, etc. I'm so happy we were all part of the same family. Thank you for being so kind and happy. |

I am so lucky to have been able to spend 25 years with my Great-Grandfather. I always love visiting the Old Man in the Mountains, as I called him. He has always taught me to work hard and stay happy. He inspired me to grow my own food and to enjoy the beauty of nature. I feel so lucky to have seen him 5 different times in the last 6 years! |

My grandfather, Harry West, Sr. made a peaceful transition to another world today. He was really great to me. Lived there when I was a baby. Then he took me all over the country growing up and I stayed there for the summers... He liked that I ...played ball and was my biggest softball fan....and we had some great times the last few years hanging out at his mountain home. He lived a good life, and was good man. You couldn't ask for a better Pop. |
